We have no doubt all indulged ourselves in chocolate at some point or another.
A special occasion, a birthday, Easter?
There are so many types of chocolate in the market to choose from these days, how do we differentiate the good from the bad?
Not all chocolate is good for us of course, this is due to the way it is processed and to the various ingredients added to it, refined sugar being one of them. Eating the right type of chocolate, however, can be beneficial.
Cocoa beans are the basis of chocolate. The word Cacao is derived from Theobroma Cacao beans, which literally means “Food of the Gods”. Cocoa is made by fermenting and drying the seeds of the cacoa tree. These are the main ‘good for you’ ingredients in chocolate.
It is considered a superfood as it contains over 300 compounds including: protein, fat, carbohydrates, fibre, iron, zinc, copper, calcium and magnesium and was in fact the basis of a drink enjoyed by the Aztecs.
Cocoa beans are full of anti-oxidant properties as well as ‘feel good’ hormones.
Why does chocolate make us feel good?
One of the many ‘bliss’ chemicals found in chocolate is the lipid anandamide. It’s there in our brain when we feel great. Anandamide is also called “chocolate amphetamine” as it causes changes in blood pressure and blood-sugar levels, leading to feelings of excitement and alertness.
Some people consider Cocoa beans to be nature’s anti-depressant.
So eating dark chocolate can actually be good for you, in small doses of course!
72% cocoa is recommended and the top organic and fair trade quality is a must for best taste and goodness.
Chocolate on the skin

Choosing the best possible cocoa for our skincare
We are honoured and delighted to be using organic cocoa in our Chocolate Face Mask from the Grococo project, in partnership with the Grenada Chocolate Company and London’s finest chocolate company, Rococo.
We have known Chantal Coady the amazing inspiring heart behind Rococo for some time now and it was a no brainer to purchase their finest organic cocoa for our face mask.
The story behind Grococo is what makes the cocoa even more special. Devastation from two hurricanes, love and compassion from friends and great will power are all ingredients for the amazing journey which eventually formed Grococo.
